2 Day Flinders Ranges 4WD Explorer
Description:
Day 1: Depart at 0700 by 4WD vehicle and travel north skirting St Vincents Gulf to Port Wakefield, then the historic sea port of Port Germein for morning tea (included). Continue to Melrose the oldest town in the Southern Flinders Ranges. Visit the historic railway junction at Quorn and view the ruins of the 1860's township of Kanyaka, before arriving at Wilpena Pound Resort, located in the Flinders Ranges National Park. Take an optional scenic flight or a bush walk to Wilpena Pound. Dinner at own expense. (L)
Day 2: After an early breakfast, visit the rugged Bunyeroo Valley and Brachina Gorge. Morning tea is served at a waterhole in Brachina Gorge where you can inspect the ancient fossils and view rock wallabies. Return south through the Clare Valley wine growing district stopping for lunch enroute. Arrive Adelaide approximately 1800 hours. (B, L)

Travel south through the rolling hills and along the Fleurieu Peninsula coastline to Cape Jervis to board Sealink's large comfortable catamaran for the 45 minute crossing to Kangaroo Island. Your coach tour commences with a guided walk along the beach amongst a wild colony of rare and endangered sea lions at Seal Bay. After lunch and koala walk, travel to Flinders Chase National Park, home to numerous native animals including kangaroos, wallabies and koalas. Travel past the site of the Sydney Olympics and into the Blue Mountains National Park, stopping for morning tea amongst the kangaroos at Euroka Clearing. Travel through the mountain townships of Leura and Cascades with our first stop at the Three Sisters. Engage 4WD and travel over bush tracks to Anvil Rock, a spectacular viewpoint over the Grose Valley. After lunch follow an original trail of the first explorers to cross the mountains down to Hawkesbury River Valley. Depart from your hotel crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and follow the Pacific Coast Highway through the spectacular Hawkesbury River fjord country. Stop for morning tea, then continue to Port Stephens. Travel out to Stockton Beach for the thrill of 4 wheel driving over the sand dunes and along the beach. Search for pipis (shell fish) and learn how the Aborigines survived in this harsh but beautiful environment. After a lunch over looking the harbour, join your 1 1/2 hour dolphin watch cruise and on warm days take a swim in the boom net for close up views of these playful creatures, before returning to Sydney. This is your opportunity to climb the world famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. Each group of climbers is accompanied by a fully trained Climb Leader who will take you to the top of the bridge 134 metres above sea level. A comprehensive briefing and safety demonstration is conducted and you will be provided with bridge-suit, communications equipment and a bridge harness that is linked to a static line throughout the climb.
