Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Hobart
Collect your car on your arrival at Hobart Airport and make your way to The Grand Chancellor Hotel.
Day 2 : Hobart at leisure
You are free to explore the city of Hobart and its surrounding areas at you leisure. Maybe take a cruise to Bruny Island to see spectacular wildlife or drive to Port Arthur to discover Australia’s first convict settlement. Port Arthur is one of Australia's great tourism destinations. Every building, and feature of this historic site has a story to tell. Created with convict labour, the impressive architecture and chilly prison facilities survive today for you to explore.
Day 3 : Hobart - Strahan - 180 miles (approx 3 ½ hours)
Today visit the historic town of New Norfolk set in picturesque hop growing country. Continue along the Lyell Highway before arriving in the historic mining town of Queenstown. The road from here climbs steeply out of the valley before heading down to the fishing village of Strahan. 2 nights at Franklin Manor including breakfast.
Day 4 : Strahan at leisure
Today you are free to explore the charming village of Strahan. One of the main highlights of Strahan is to enjoy a cruise on the Gordon River. With an 08.30 departure, the Lady Jane Franklin takes you on a voyage of discovery across Maquarie Harbour and into the wilderness, (not included in the price, we will be happy to pre-book this for you – prices upon request)
Day 5 : Strahan - Cradle Mountain - 93 miles (approx 1 ¾ hours)
Travel via Zeehan to World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park, famous for its many lakes and mountain peaks and dramatic scenery. There are many short walks - the best way to experience this beautiful region. 2 nights at Cradle Mountain Lodge including breakfast.
Day 6 : Cradle Mountain at leisure
Today is free for you to further explore Cradle Mountain.
Day 7 : Cradle Mountain to Launceston - 92 miles (1 ¾ hours)
Drive northeast via Moina, Gowrie Park, Sheffield and Deloraine before reaching Launceston and the beautiful Tamar Valley. Overnight at The Grand Chancellor Hotel.
Day 8 : Depart Launceston
You have the morning at leisure. We suggest that you take the Great Walk Trail that includes stunning Cataract Gorge Reserve at the edge of the city. Return your car to Launceston Airport in time for your flight to your next exciting Australian destination. |
