Day 1:
Depart from General Aviation side of Cairns Airport. Your flight will take you along the coast as you ascend over the Great Barrier Reef and the surrounding islands, cross deserted sections of coastline then over the world heritage protected rainforest. The flight will take you over the same route of Captain Cook’s discovery voyage; the coastline seems as isolated as it did 200 years ago. At the airport you will be met by your guide and you will travel by 4WD vehicle for a brief stop to view Cooktown from a lookout before heading towards Mungumby Lodge, your overnight accommodation (included). Day at leisure. (No meals included).

Day 2:
Depart at 0830 to travel to a totally different geographical region along the secondary gold route to the Palmer Goldfields. Here the land is frequently parched dry; the Eucalyptus trees become common, intermingled with termite mounds and sandstone escarpments. You will travel on sealed road to Lakeland before travelling along unsealed road heading north towards Laura and into the Quinkan Country. You will stop at the Quinkan Cultural Centre for an insight to the region's history. After lunch travel to Split Rock to view three Aboriginal rock art galleries within the sand stone escarpments. On the journey back to Mungumby Lodge you will stop at one of the Kings Plain billabongs to view a wide range of birds amongst this unique habitat. (B, L)

Day 3:
After breakfast, the morning is at leisure. A delicious lunch is served (own expense) at the lodge prior to the Cooktown tour, which visits Keatings lagoon for the opportunity for bird watchers to see a full selection of migrating birds that frequent this wetland area. On to Cooktown and the Botanic Gardens/Natures Power House for afternoon tea and 60 minutes to view the magnificent nature display and art gallery. Check in for your flight to Cairns at 1700 at Cooktown airport. (B)
